The Rebirth of Old Accommodations: A New Combination of Real Estate and Hospitality
Global real estate franchise REMAX Korea has launched a new project to revive the value of idle accommodations in partnership with hotel management specialist AZMT. On November 7th, the two companies signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) and agreed to jointly pursue the "Hospitality Asset Value-Up Project," which aims to remodel aging hotels, motels, and officetels in Korea and transform them into new, profitable assets.
This agreement is significant because it goes beyond simple renovations and represents a "fusion of real estate and hospitality." The key is to transform local accommodations into new types of residential properties by combining content and operational systems, in addition to physical improvements to the building. The goal is to create a sustainable model that not only generates short-term revenue but also stimulates the local economy and tourism demand.
The Rebirth of Space, Transforming the Value of a Region

Through this agreement, RE/MAX Korea and AZMT will work together to implement all stages of real estate value enhancement, including the conversion of downtown officetels and commercial facilities into hotels, renovation and repositioning of aging motels and hotels, business analysis and financial structure design, operational content development and marketing, and investor connection and exit plan development. RE/MAX Korea will leverage its infrastructure, including a nationwide network of approximately 400 licensed real estate agents and RE/MAX headquarters' 145,000 global agents in over 110 countries, to identify domestic and international hospitality assets and connect investors with buyers.
In particular, Remax Korea recently established a "Hospitality Team" to research remodeling and investment models for residential properties, including hotels, resorts, and officetels. This agreement is significant as its first large-scale collaborative project. It also demonstrates Remax's evolution beyond simple real estate brokerage into a comprehensive real estate platform encompassing development, operation, and investment.

AZMT is a hospitality company that has directly developed and operated numerous accommodations, including HotelAlive Jeonju Sihwa Yeonpung, HotelAround Sokcho, HotelAround Pyeongchang, and Hyatt Place Busan Yeonsan. With "Operational Value-Up" as its core strategy, AZMT has created "stay experiences that embody the local story," rather than simply providing accommodations. Offering comprehensive solutions encompassing building renovation, branding, content development, and operational efficiency, AZMT is setting a new direction for the domestic hotel remodeling market.
AZMT CEO Kim Hong-yeol said, “The combination of Remax’s real estate exploration capabilities and AZMT’s operational and branding capabilities will transform old motels and hotels into new, profitable properties,” adding, “Through this agreement, we plan to expand idle accommodation assets across the country into urban regeneration hospitality projects.”
A new market created by real estate and hospitality

“The lodging industry has now transcended the realm of tourism and is establishing itself as a key pillar of real estate value creation,” said Shin Hee-seong, CEO of Remax Korea. “Together with AZMT, we will upgrade idle lodging assets across the country and create a new investment platform that connects the real estate and hospitality markets.”
CEO Shin added that this agreement goes beyond a simple partnership between companies and will serve as a starting point for restructuring the domestic real estate industry and new business models. Building on this agreement, the two companies plan to establish a "Joint Hospitality Asset Development Committee" to sequentially pursue various projects, including hotel and motel renovations, officetel conversions, and the development of integrated accommodations, focusing on the metropolitan area and major tourist destinations.

Remax Korea will be responsible for asset discovery and investment network expansion, while AZMT will be responsible for renovation design, operations, and branding, comprehensively managing the entire asset value enhancement process. This agreement is expected to evolve beyond a short-term business collaboration into a long-term partnership where both companies will share their strengths and advance the domestic hospitality industry as a whole.
Through this agreement, Remax Korea is moving beyond its existing brokerage-centric structure and establishing a new platform that combines real estate and operational businesses. Led by its hospitality team, Remax Korea is steadily expanding its development and investment models for residential properties, including hotels, resorts, and officetels. It also plans to actively participate in urban regeneration through local projects. AGMT will leverage Remax's nationwide network to expand its reach with investors and buyers, while leveraging its accumulated operational expertise to drive real-world efficiency improvements.
This agreement is significant in that it opens up new market possibilities at the intersection of real estate and hospitality—that is, assets and operations. This means not simply remodeling aging buildings, but rather "operation-centered value creation," where the use and experience of the space are redesigned. The collaboration between Remax Korea and AZMT extends beyond simply renovating old accommodations to encompass projects that reconnect regions, industries, and people. The industry is watching closely to see whether this initiative can revolutionize the domestic real estate market.
