"There's no such thing as an easy contract"... A late-blooming rookie agent's six months of trial and error as he finds his way.
The market is cold, but people are warm. The six months of Remax Meister Choi Hyun-mi, an agent who found growth through failure, have proven the meaning of this saying. This is her story of forging her own path, learning step by step within the Remax system.
The real estate market is always cold and unpredictable. Contracts are evaluated by numbers, but behind them lie countless failures and lessons learned.
After sending her two children to college, Remax Meister agent Choi Hyun-mi entered the real estate industry late in life, seeking a second chance at life. While not yet a veteran with a track record of large-scale transactions, she's a rookie in her sixth month, forging her own path through trial and error. Her journey offers practical encouragement to those seeking to venture into real estate.
Introduction - Find a brand you can grow with.

For agent Choi Hyun-mi, learning was the key to her success. While preparing to start her own business, she completed an auction training course, and the connections she made there became a valuable asset. After passing the real estate agent exam, she met a Remax agent at an Eduwill information session and decided to join the company. She recalls, "Their network of over 400 agents, their systematic entrepreneurship training, and their transparent transaction system were impressive. I felt confident that we could grow together, rather than alone."
In her first month, she gained practical experience through "Fire Up," "Max Training," and one-on-one personal training with the CEO. She arrived early, listened to advice from her senior colleagues, and developed her own routine. Although it felt unfamiliar, she selected the training needed by topic and immediately applied it to her work. She learned that "how you start your day is crucial."
Challenge - I learned about the market by walking 30,000 steps a day.
From the second month on, I began my full-scale "farming" process. I walked 20,000 to 30,000 steps a day, personally exploring the area around my office. I inspected the building from basement to rooftop, combining online listing information with on-site research to build my own database. As a result, I gained the confidence that "my own data is more accurate than the listings on the market."
This on-the-ground experience led to my first opportunity. It was a storefront behind City Hall. It was a rare, unlisted property, offering no rights to the property. I quickly connected with a franchise tenant and negotiated a deal, but the contract had already been finalized with another broker.
She said, "We secured a good property, but the reasons for our failure were clear. We lacked a tenant database, and our speed was slow. Ultimately, we realized that in the market, the key to success is 'who can connect faster.'" This first failure served as a wake-up call to the importance of a database and the value of speed.
First Success – Everybody Wins
The strategy was immediately revised. We focused on securing tenants and building trust, and we selected and promoted properties in prime locations that weren't on the market. Inquiries increased, and our tenant database quickly grew. We met with countless people daily, meticulously assessing their needs and narrowing down potential matches.
Her relationship with the landlord also changed. They became so close that they changed their title from "CEO" to "Mother." They shared a routine of bringing drinks and discussing changes in inventory, and this frequent communication fostered trust. Ultimately, she successfully secured a lease for a three-story commercial building.
She says, "This deal wasn't just a simple transaction; it was the culmination of six months of hard work and failure. Above all, I was most proud that it was a deal that satisfied everyone: the tenant, the landlord, and the broker." It was a moment that truly embodied Remax's philosophy of "Everybody Wins."
Realization: If you don't give up, opportunities will come.
Although her first failure was deeply disheartening, she chose analysis over frustration. She personally sought out nearby properties that met her tenant's criteria, negotiated with prime office buildings, and built trust through consistent contact. She learned that even aggressive offers could ultimately lead to a deal, and over time, landlords even began suggesting new properties.
She's currently working on a new lease project in the Dadong area of Jung-gu, aiming to open the first domestic location of an overseas franchise. A draft contract was even drawn up, but the landlord's change of heart led to the project falling through. She's now proposing alternative properties and continuing negotiations. "No contract is easy," she says, "but if you don't give up, an opportunity will surely come."
Her growth was possible thanks to Remax's systematic training system. Weekly "Max Training," one-on-one coaching from the CEO, and the experience sharing of senior agents provided a solid foundation.
"Remax isn't just a brand; it's a team that grows together. Through the process of learning, failing, and getting back up again, I feel like I'm growing into a true agent."
Today, Remax Korea continues to support the challenges of new recruits like Agent Choi Hyun-mi, who are forging their own paths. We look forward to her next contract and her next success story.
