'RE/MAX' is a global real estate company with approximately 130,000 agents active in over 8,500 offices in over 110 countries around the world. In Korea, since 'Remax Korea' was established in 2013, there are currently about 300 agents operating in 24 franchises nationwide. The 24 Remax franchises located throughout the country are individually hiring real estate agents.
Real estate agent is Remax's unique name for a licensed real estate agent. Most brokerage houses have four or five employees at most, and real estate corporations have dozens of employees, but Remax is the only company that has a branch network. Some branches also broker residential products such as apartments, but most deal with mid- to large-sized commercial real estate such as buildings, land, and logistics centers.
The recruitment process is conducted in the following order: document screening, employee interview, and CEO interview. Sometimes, each branch recruits, or the head office also goes through the recruitment process and sends it to each branch. Even when applying through the head office, affiliation belongs to each branch. Some people who already have a real estate agent license are applying, but recently, the number of applicants from other fields is also increasing. An official at Remax Korea said, “There are people who come to us saying they want to learn how to work at a big company after running a brokerage house, and there are also people who are former bank branch managers, securities companies, or insurance planners.”
The proportion of base salary and performance bonus varies depending on the individual contract. Due to the nature of the real estate brokerage industry, the agent's salary system is based on performance bonuses. Among skilled agents, there are cases where they take 95% of the commission as their own performance bonus. Last year, Remax Korea's top agent had annual sales exceeding 2 billion won. Here, about 1.8 billion won was given to him as performance bonus. The hiring scale is approximately 100 people per year. However, the dropout rate is higher than that of other occupations.
